The rules we hold ourselves to when writing about teeth whitening.
Sourcing
Factual and efficacy claims cite primary sources: the American Dental Association (ADA), the UK's NHS, Cochrane Oral Health systematic reviews, and peer-reviewed dental journals (Journal of the American Dental Association, Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Journal of Dentistry). We do not use statistics or study results that we cannot link to a checkable source.
Evidence check (not medical review)
Our editorial reviewer, Ira Zoot, is not a licensed dentist, hygienist, or other clinician. Ira's role is to evidence-check every page before it ships: each factual claim is cross-checked against published guidance from the ADA, NIH/NIDCR, Cochrane Oral Health systematic reviews, and peer-reviewed dental journals. Reviewer name and review date are shown on the page. Nothing on this site is a substitute for care from your own dentist - see our medical disclaimer.
Citations
Key claims on method guides, product reviews, and articles link out to their primary sources - either inline or in a "Sources" list at the bottom of the page. If you spot a claim without a citation, please tell us and we will add one or revise the claim.
Corrections & updates
We correct errors visibly. When we materially update a page based on new evidence or corrections, the "Last updated" date changes and a note is added to a public change log. Please report an error.

Affiliate relationships do not determine which methods or products we cover, nor how we cover them. Products are selected and evaluated using our review methodology.
What we won't do
- Guarantee specific shade improvements or timeframes.
- Fabricate reviewer credentials or author bios.
- Publish before-and-after imagery implying real user results without disclosure.
- Endorse DIY methods without noting evidence gaps and enamel-erosion risks.
